If you’re looking to get away from it all during your stay in Malta, here’s our inside guide to the island’s most secluded beaches.

If setting foot on a beach that’s jam-packed with locals and tourists keen to top up their tans sounds like something you might like to avoid, then you’ve come to the right place. Take a step our of the ordinary and follow our trail to discover some of the most secluded beaches in Malta.

St George’s Bay

The Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach resort offers ample opportunities for sun worshipers, alongside a great range of restaurants and bars. Perched right on the water’s edge, the hotel offers accessibilities to several pools, a lido, as well as direct access to the private beach below. In addition, the hotel also enjoys the facilities of an in-house water-sports and yacht charter centre and a diving school, as well as spa facilities.

Imgiebah Bay

This tranquil cove is pretty much what one could describe as a slice of paradise. Its crystalline waters and smooth rock formations make it a haven for sunbathers and snorkelers alike, however its lack of beach facilities, and restricted access from the main road make it one of Malta’s less frequented spots. Visit some time during the week and there’s a large chance that you’ll be able to claim it as your own for the afternoon.

San Blas Bay

Tucked away in Gozo, Malta’s sister island, San Blas Bay is still relatively untouched thanks to its remote location, and steep hilled access. Nevertheless, its bright waters and reddish coloured sands draw a number of visitors with a sense of adventure.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Literally translated from Maltese as ‘Apple’s Eye’, this unspoiled beach lies quietly right beside its larger, more frequented sibling; Malta’s Golden Bay. This stretch of pristine sand is only reached by traversing down a steep 180-step descent but, as one of Malta’s most popular secluded beaches, it’s well worth the journey.

Fomm ir-Rih Bay

Probably the most isolated of the lot, Fomm ir-Rih Bay may only be accessed via a steep, difficult path that takes around 15 minutes to venture through, directly down to the rocky shore below. This beach is pebbly and set against the stunning backdrop of the imposing cliffs above. Feel free to snorkel or float around on your back while taking in the impressive serenity that has been preserved in this spot.

St Peter’s Pool

Located towards the south of the island, St Peter’s Pool is a natural turquoise swimming pool found at Dellimara point. Its brilliant waters offer ample snorkelling opportunities, whereas its flat, chalky shores provide optimal sunbathing conditions. Ladders are available along the shores, however braver swimmers tend to prefer diving in from its surrounding ledges. Make sure to pack an extra bottle of water and a sandwich or two as there are no facilities on this beach – paradise comes at a price!
