When you live on an island blessed with almost year-round sunshine, you’ll soon discover that your flip flops are almost as important as your car keys. And when that island is as small as Malta, you’re never more than fifteen minutes away from a little slice of paradise!
Being an island, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches and coves – ask pretty much anyone which their favourite spot is and you’ll be surprised with how many options you’ll suddenly find yourself with – regardless of whether it’s rocky beaches, pebbly shores or soft and sandy beaches you’re in the mood for.
Malta’s charming sister island, Gozo, is only a short ferry ride away and bursting with surprises! Ranking as one of the best beaches selected by the Telegraph UK, Ramla il-Hamra is a stunning natural beach made up of purely red sand that derive from ancient volcanic deposits in the Mediterranean ocean floor.
And just in case that were not enough, the crystal clear turquoise waters of Comino’s Blue Lagoon are close by.
The months of June, July and August generally tend to be the most popular with tourists, however summer in Malta starts much earlier and locals start enjoying the beaches from as early of April. During the summer months, water temperatures generally average a fantastic 25 degree Celsius!
As for our favourites – well, here you go:
- Golden Bay – A large bay with stunning views and soft golden sand. Very popular with locals, families and foreigners alike.
- St Peter’s Pool – A rocky beach in the south of water with crystalline azure waters and chalky rock formations.
- Mellieha Bay – One of the larger sandy and most popular beaches in Malta– A variety of Water-Sports are also available at this beach.
- Ramla il Hamra – This beach in Gozo is known for its idyllic landscape and famous for its red sand dunes.
- St Georges Bay – This is the closest Blue Flag sandy beach to the Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort and very popular with younger generation with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.
